My Work-From-Home Routine

It's been close to two months now that I've been working from home and adjusting to this "new normal" due to our current circumstances and state of the world. I'm very fortunate to be a part of an industry where I'm able to self isolate and work remotely - as for some individuals that is certainly not the case.


Over the past few weeks, I've realized it's easier to become accustomed to this new situation by developing a stay-at-home daily routine that works for me and helps me stay productive throughout the day, while also fitting in batches of time to take a break and relax. Maintaining this set schedule for the most part has been pretty beneficial, although some days throughout the week may look a little different depending on meetings, workload, and other miscellaneous to-dos.


I wanted to share what my "typical" daily routine looks like and I hope you all are able to implement something similar to get the most out of your days. I've noticed time definitely goes by faster with the specific blocks of time I've allocated within this routine, (which can be a good or bad thing) however I am fortunate to have flexibility and can always adjust as necessary.

7:00AM - 7:30AM: Alarm goes off to start my day. "Bed Peace" by Jhene Aiko. I start each morning by waking up around this time. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and change into my running gear that I laid out the night before. I drink a few gulps of water before heading out the door!


7:45AM - 8:30AM: First + longest workout of the day. "All me" by Kehlani, featuring Keshia Cole. I usually start off my mornings with a 5 mile run. I wouldn't call myself a morning person, but since being in quarantine, I've found it much easier to complete my runs first thing in the morning. It's a great way for me to set my intentions for the day and also meditate/clear my mind of any work or personal related items. I don't like to eat any solids before a run and will usually wait until later for my first meal. Pre-social distancing, I completed my runs during lunch to combat sitting down at a desk all day!

8:45AM - 9:30AM: Morning prep for first meeting of the day: "Father Stretch My Hands Part 1" by Kanye West, featuring Kid Cudi. I hop in the shower, quickly fix my hair (aka braiding or putting in a half bun), put on semi-decent appropriate attire (aka athleisure wear) and brew up my first cup of coffee. I'll sometimes compliment my coffee with a banana or Clif bar. I start up my laptop, check any emails received from the night prior and hop on my first stand-up meeting for the day.


11:00AM: Second mini workout of the day: "React" by The Pussycat Dolls. After a couple of morning meetings, I start my second wave of physical fitness by doing a Barry's and/or Women's Health Mag IG live workout. These typically last about 20-30 minutes, depending on the type of workout, but I try to prioritize a lot of core work and stretching during this time. I average about 145 miles a month, which may seem like a lot to some of you or nothing compared to you ultra marathoners out there, but I have a bad habit of forgetting to stretch after runs, so these live workouts are a great reminder!


12:00PM: Foooooood: "Passionfruit" by Drake. I love eating. Which is honestly why I workout as much as I do. I have a huge sweet tooth and have been eating all the snacks, literally everything in sight. This is definitely something I'm working on. 🙃 It's surreal how big of an impact food and nutrition overall plays a role in our health. For lunch I like to keep things simple. I'll usually eat a plain mini bagel with cream cheese and a side of some green grapes, green apples with Justin's nut butter, scrambled eggs with toast, or a Daily Harvest smoothie. 1:00PM - 5:00PM: Work. Snack. Work. Snack. Repeat: "Happiness Over Everything" by Jhene Aiko. These next few hours are usually filled with team meetings or any specific work related tasks I'm currently working on. Since this is usually around the time of day I'm mostly stagnant and sitting in a chair all day, I make sure to take any necessary breaks where I can. This could include going on a quick walk with my baby boy, Milo, getting up to grab more snacks, or just catching up on text messages and social media outlets.

5:30PM - 6:00PM: Third and final mini workout of the day: "Why Don't We Fall In Love" by Amerie. Time permitting I like to squeeze in one more workout before eating dinner. These are usually IG live workouts or workouts on the NTC app. At this point of the day, I'm usually complete with work (some days I'm still working into the evening hours) and try to allocate this time for another "self care" workout. Health and fitness is my thing. Any opportunity I get to move my body, take time for myself, and relieve stress I do!


6:30PM - 7:15PM: Dinner time: "Reborn" by Kids See Ghosts. I'll usually try to have a light dinner. I don't like to go to sleep on a "full" stomach. Some days of the week I also intermittent fast, on those days I don't eat a dinner at all, but make sure I fuel my body the earlier parts of my day so I'm not starving around this time. I'm also a huge fan of breakfast/brunch. I can eat it any time of day, some days of the week for dinner. Some common meals I consume during this time are baked salmon with a side of steamed veggies (I'm a pescatarian, so I only eat fish & seafood!), berry smoothies, Greek honey yogurt with almond toasted granola, pizza, or some combination of rice, shrimp, and veggies.

7:30PM - 8:15PM: Night time self-care routine: "Nights" by Frank Ocean. I'm a grandma at heart and like to get ready for bed earlier around this time. I'll shower and practice my night time self care routine. Lately I've been focusing on my skincare and am more conscience of the types of products I use. I have eczema so the majority of the products I use are unscented and focused on hydration. A beauty brand I recently started using is Jessica Alba's Honest Beauty line. She has a nice gentle gel cleanser and a hydrogel cream that I really like.


8:30PM - 10:00PM: Relaxation before bed: This is the time I truly start to unwind. I'll either catch up on a show on Netflix or continue to read through any books on my list. My screen time has definitely increased since this quarantine hiatus, so I'll also catch up on social media and connect with any friends or family I have yet to respond to from earlier in the day.

And that is my quarantine routine for the past couple of months now. It's definitely a crazy time that we're experiencing, but the good thing is that it's something we're all going through and we'll continue to get through together. I'm doing my part as much as I can to social distance, support small businesses, and take care/check in on family members and friends. I can't thank all of the frontline and essential workers enough during this time. 2020 is definitely a year that will go down in the books as a memorable one.
